Let’ explore why it is so difficult to leave Christianity on a subconscious level
Beautiful day lovely humans. I appreciate you returning to the website to read another blog post. If this is your first time here- LET ME LOVE ON YOU!!! -Muahzzz ππ
In this blog post, we’re going to be discussing why it is so hard to leave Christianity. Because let’s be real, it can be a challenge! Even when you feel like you’ve been ‘called’ to walk away from it. Today, we’re going to look at the way the mind actually works, and my intentions are to provide women with tools to unlearn any belief that is currently holding them back.
If you’ve landed on this blog post, I assume you’re already in the process of deconstructing Christianity. If you’re seeking to expound upon reasons for leaving, I do apologize, but this website may not be beneficial for you. I specifically speak to women who have already made the choice to leave, but for whatever reason (most likely because of subconscious programming, social pressure) they’re still involved. I don’t say this to discourage anyone from reading my posts. I just want everyone to be on the same page of what my intentions are.
You may have already participated in ‘manifestation IS faith‘ and/or ‘Aligned & Anointed.‘ If so, some of this may sound a bit familiar. If there was any disconnect anywhere within you, this may very will fill in that missing piece.
Highlights:
- The human mind is said to consist of being 88% subconscious and 12% conscious, with the subconscious mind being responsible for habitual behaviors.
- Humans are born with innate survival skills such as fight, flight, and freeze. Humans are said to only have been born with two fears: falling and loud noises.
- Shadow work and repeatedly asking yourself ‘why’ could help you get to the root of limited beliefs.
- It is essential that humans learn how to replace negative associations with positive affirmations to achieve mental and spiritual freedom.
- It is vital to consciously protect subconscious gateways (what the human body is exposed to).
The Mind Has TWO Parts
I posted the video here to help those of you who learn better by seeing. For those of you who feel you’re able to follow along with the written word, I’d like for you to picture one large circle. We’re going to allow this to represent the mind. Now, I’d like for you to picture a smaller circle connected by a short line directly beneath it. We’re going to allow this second, much smaller circle to represent the body. && the body is the physical representation of the mind.
Everything that the body experiences, and every pattern that it repeats, is a direct reflection of what’s happening in the mind above it. I was given this model from Dr. John Kappas. && the way that it was explained to me made everything click. My hope is that it does the same for you π
The Primitive Mind
Humans are said to have been born with specific traits hard wired into us to help keep us alive. This is referred to as the primitive mind. It’s responsible for fight, flight, and freeze.
Fight is the instinct that helps us protect ourselves when something is coming directly at us. Flight is when our body chooses to run towards safety. && freezing occurs when neither running nor fighting are the safest option- like playing dead when there’s a bear on your trail.
“If you learned it, you could unlearn it!”
The Subconscious Mind
As humans begin to progress in age, they begin to associate certain stimuli as being good or bad. This shapes individual emotional responses. The subconscious mind is said to account for over 80% of the mind in general. It’s also responsible for human emotions, which are said to have a direct effect on human behavior. The subconscious mind is powerful! && it operates outside of the control of any conscious effort.
The Conscious Mind
The conscious mind is what’s responsible for human logic. This is the part of a person who consistently says, ‘this is the last time’ or ‘I’m done with smoking!’ The conscious mind is what reasons, analyzes, and has willpower. It’s said to account for roughly 12% of the human mind.
The Critical Mind
This part of the mind is said to behave as a ‘gatekeeper.’ Its function is to filter through the stimuli that the brain receives throughout the day. If the human comes in contact with something that is in direct opposition to what the subconscious mind knows to be ‘true’ (it’s associations), then it will simply be filtered out.

How Humans Form Associations
As mentioned previously, as human progress in age, they begin associating meaning to their experiences. These associations are classified into three categories: negative, positive, or neutral. The odd thing is, just because the subconscious mind associates something as being ‘positive’, doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s ‘good.’ Just the same, ‘negative’ associations don’t have to mean that something is ‘bad’ for the human.
Positive means it’s known as pleasurable to the subconscious mind. Negative means that it’s unknown, or painful to the subconscious mind.
I am a person who has a negative association with dogs. Don’t get me wrong, I think dogs are cute and make wonderful companions. However, I can recall being chased by a dog on more than one occasion, and my mind has defaulted a categorization of dogs being a negative.
The same is true for Christianity,
A person may feel ‘called’ to leave because they are no longer aligned with the religion, yet they still catch themselves rebuking in the name of Jesus. This is because it’s automatic. It’s associated with pleasure in their minds. These associations may appear stronger when a person is around their family members. Or they may continue to go to church out of mere habit. && unfortunately, they may still carry a fear of going to hell. This inner struggle is surfacing from deep within the person because there have been decades of associations related to being a part of ‘the church.’
Why The Guilt Doesn’t Just ‘Go Away’
Researchers have theorized that about 88% of the mind consists of the subconscious mind. This leaves about 12% of the mind to being ‘conscious.’ The conscious mind is where critical thinking resides. Along with logic and reason. && it’s said that this portion of the mind isn’t fully developed until around the age of nine. Meaning, the environments that you were in before this age were easily absorbed by your subconscious mind.
It’s for this reason that people are able to make the conscious choice to leave Christianity, yet still feel guilt, and still hold a fear of going to hell. && often times, it leaves many individuals concerned, and wondering if it’s possible to actually have a relationship with God (outside of organized religion).
The conscious mind may have made the choice that it’s ready to leave, but the subconscious mind has yet to fully get the memo. && this causes an internal conflict- one of which I assume you’re currently experiencing if you’ve landed on this blog post.
Uncovering the Root by Asking ‘WHY’
I asked a lot of questions as a child, && still do today! Most of the time, people do not respond well to questions, because they help others have a better comprehension of things. With that being said, an easy way to get to the root of a belief is to keep asking, ‘why.’ WHY do I have a fear of hell? Because the bible says that hell exists. WHY do I believe this? Because the bible is said to be inspired by God. WHY would God want this to be written in the bible? Because people were not obeying his law. WHY were people not obeying his law? && if a person continues on with this process, they’ll land pretty close to the root of the belief.
What many have realized, is that many of the beliefs that they hold to be true, were passed down to them. && many others have realized that them no longer believing in hell doesn’t affect the relationship that they have with the source of all creation, consciousness, intelligence, and awareness.
Once the root has been found,
A person can choose to replace the association with something else. If the belief is, ‘I’m going to hell for leaving Christianity’ then it could be replaced with something like, ‘I am safe and divinely protected.‘ or ‘the source of all creation dwells within me. Delights in me. && I delight in the source.‘
Shortcuts are here to assist
Typically, it takes a new idea about an hour and a half to move through the conscious mind. && then it could take 24 hours for the critical mind to filter it and allow it to settle into the subconscious mind. In guided meditation, ideas are able to travel past the conscious mind, past the critical mind, and be planted directly into the subconscious mind. This shortcut is able to help people create change faster than repeating affirmations alone.
I’ve walked this exact process. I once felt the same fear when it came to hell. The guilt of stepping outside of how I was raised was heavy. But doing this work on a subconscious level has helped me pluck out those limiting beliefs. (‘pluck’ is used figuratively. What we’re actually doing is creating new neural pathways for electrical pulses to travel along)
The Best Time to Reach the Subconscious Mind
I’ve been taught that the closer your affirmations and guided mediations are to the moment you fall asleep, the better they’ll be able to reach your subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is said to be in full control when the body is asleep. This is when it does it’s healing, filtering, processing, and several other things.
I’d recommend you saying your affirmations an hour before bed, and again when you rise in the AM. It could also prove to be useful to recite them a few times throughout the day. I’ve mentioned leveraging guided meditations, but I do want to make you aware that listening to them while lying in bed is a good way to fall asleep. This leads me to something that’s a bit controversial. I was taught, that the subconscious mind doesn’t receive information when the human body is asleep. However, I personally believe that it does!
Try it out! Give yourself three weeks of consistent focus with the expectation of seeing a shift in your life. Some beliefs are able to be released quickly, while there are deeper ones that require more attention.
Conclusion
I really do hope that you now have a better comprehension of why it can be so hard to leave Christianity. It may seem as if you’ve been doing something wrong, when in reality, you may not have known how to truly reach your subconscious mind effectively. But now, you do! Therefore, you should think like you know!
