How I’m Navigating My Faith, Identity, and Spirituality Beyond Christianity as a Deconstructed Christian
Beautiful day lovely humans. I appreciate you returning to the website to read another one of my blog posts. If this is your first time here- LET ME LOVE ON YOU!!! -muahzzz ππ
Yes, it’s true. I’ve created a lot of content for Christian women, although I myself no longer identify as a Christian. One may question, ‘What gives you the right?’ && that would be a fair question to ask. One may also wonder why a person who doesn’t agree with Christianity in its entirety would still be using scripture. The answer to those questions is simple- I’m a deconstructed Christian.
As a deconstructed Christian. I know what it’s like to have one foot in and one foot out of Christianity. Here’s why I make the content that I do.
I Was Raised as a Christian,
But I no longer believe in Christianity, and I have denounced Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. (did your heart skip a beat?) I actually don’t believe in any dogma anymore, not just when it comes to faith. The women who I make content for are already on their journey of deconstructing Christianity with one foot in and one foot out of the church (or religion).
I have better things to do with my time than try to sway a woman to leave her religion. However, I would like to create a safe space for the women who have already left. Especially since leaving a childhood faith can bring real backlash from the people they love most.
You may notice that many of my blog posts, podcasts, and digital downloads contain scripture from the very bible that is associated with a religion that I’m no longer affiliated with.
Why I Still Use Scripture
I still carry a Christian paradigm. That programming doesn’t just disappear because the conscious belief did (read more about that here). && there is some scripture that is comforting- both for me, and for the women who grew up with it in the way that I did.
I’ll always provide the disclaimer that I personally have realized that there is a scripture to support nearly any claim that a person can think of. Because of that, I personally do not view the bible as being a moral compass anymore. I see it more like a choose your own adventure book. Therefore, I take the meat and leave the bones. The previous sentence alone is enough to offend someone, but I’m no longer a Chrisitan, so I get to relate to the bible in a way that’s best suited for me.
But honestly, the same can be said for anything else that I read or hear. Whether its related to psychology, science, or another form of sacred text. Heck, it could even be a line from Edgar Allan Poe. If it resonates it resonates, if it doesn’t it just does not.
The Woman That I’m Actually Speaking To
When I make content, I’m speaking to one person. My real audience is my past self, scattered into different pieces across the content that I create. She’s dating with the intention of marriage. Working to overcome addiction. She’s walking away from the Christian church and figuring out what comes next. Of course, she’s learning that manifestation IS faith. She sees marriage as a merger, not an acquisition, and she knows she’s a unicorn in her own right. && I’d hope that she’s actively working to irradicate poverty from her bloodline, as well as from her community.
I Believe There Are Many Different Paths Leading to the Same Source
Personally, I believe that there is a source of all creation, consciousness, intelligence, and awareness. && I also believe that every living being has the ability to access this source. I also believe that this source is what connects us to nature, as well as to one another. Personally, I believe that ‘God’ can reach different people through different paths.
For some, that path may very well be Christianity. For others, it could be Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, or even a nature-based practice. So long as the path that they take isn’t attempting to override the free will of another person or cause another person harm. Anything that does, I personally don’t consider to be a genuine expression of the source that dwells within us.
Actually, as I type this, I realize that I could be wrong on that last bit. I’ve literally seen people harmed after they’ve wronged me, even when I was a devout Chrisitan. && heck, you’ve all read the palms π.
Where Jesus Fits Now
Speaking for myself, I do believe that Jesus was a real historical person. I not denying that. What has shifted, is how I personally relate to him. I’ve come to see Jesus more as a ‘brother’ than as my Lord and Savior. Technically, that’s what he was to me when I was a Christian, but I was always taught that he was God. && I never was able to find a single scripture to support that claim- not one.
I do, however, believe in Christ Consciousness, which is the idea that humans are able to embody the same state of being that Jesus modeled while he was here on Earth. Interestingly, I did see several scriptures that support christ consciousness.
Of course, I recognize that scripture has been translated, hand copied, and altered many times, in several different languages– before any of it reached us in its current form. I find that it still holds real spiritual insight. I simply no longer treat the bible as something without any human fingerprints on it- even if there is ‘inspired’ documentation contained within it.
I’m Making Room for All of It
Honestly, I’m not particularly interested in false positivity. Meaning, I don’t expect everything to be perfect all of the time. && I will gladly allow myself to have a pity party when needed. I think it’s completely fine, as long as I don’t stay there. But even something like anger has its place. Used well, it can spark real change, as opposed to it being suppressed entirely- which isn’t healthy for the body.
It’s healthy to feel your feelings people!! It’s also healthy to express your feelings to others. Isn’t it odd when someone expresses an emotion to someone, and then that person thinks the person should stay in that emotional state forever?? π
So, that’s the honest answer
I make this content because I still remember what it felt like to have one foot inside of Christianity and one foot out. && I want every woman to feel as though her feelings are validated.
